A beautiful old building adorns one of the streets of Ordino. This house-museum today, once belonged to a large local tycoon.
History of occurrence
Back in the 17th century, a man who bore the name Areni Plandolit lived in the city of Ordino in the Principality of Andorra. It was this person who was considered a monopolist in the field of metallurgy at that time. Plandolit owned a large forge, which was the main one not only in the city, but also in the country. Such a stable position in the metallurgy market and the constant demand for products allowed the owner of the forge to make a big fortune.
Until the 19th century, the forge had great success, until new furnaces came to replace this craft. But this fact did not greatly affect the beauty of the magnificent country house of the Plandolite family. A dacha or a country villa, as this house was also called, fully corresponded to the social status of the owners' marital status and was filled with exclusive items, which were then considered a luxury that was not acceptable to the Ordino Valley area.
Since the owner spent most of his time traveling, objects of art from various countries and cultures appeared in the house. The country house was surrounded by a magnificent garden, which today is open to the general public. Centuries-old trees, cozy recreation areas and perennial flowers make this garden extraordinary.
The three-story house is located on Carrer Major Street and is the most striking element of all the buildings in the area. The upper two floors are decorated with openwork balconies, which are made of wrought metal. This type of balcony openings is now called French.
The first floor consists of a living room and a reception hall. The second two floors were fully equipped for the rest of the owners. Today, the interior of this room seems constrained and limited. There are no excesses, only everything necessary for the everyday life of the inhabitants of this house. But, if you carefully examine each room, you can see the individual elements of the decor, which create an overall harmony of the atmosphere.
Objects of art painting, decoration of furniture made of wrought metal and natural solid wood, beautiful parquet floors, varnished, stuffed animals and much more. Each of these items created a common composition of comfort and luxury at that time.
The house of a metallurgical magnate was considered exemplary and luxurious in the period from the end of the 18th to the beginning of the 19th century. Already at the time the construction plan was approved, the house included a music salon, several cellars, a library, a chapel, a large dining room, and security elements.
